Student Council is a non-profit student body, consisting of elected students chosen from Grades 6-12 to represent their peers. Student Council is run by student members and an Independent Advisor. It seeks to achieve the following objectives:
Objectives:

To promote and advance the interests of the student body at IIS,
whether academic, intellectual, cultural, social or otherwise.
- To foster intellectual and moral growth of the students at IIS.
- To safeguard the rights of individual students.
- To maintain communication with the student body, faculty,
administration and staff of IIS and represent students in matters
affecting their common interest.
Officers

Advisor
The Advisor is a staff member selected by the Principal. He/she should supervise the election process, meetings, activities, etc. He/she is responsible for upholding the good standing of the Student Council. The IIS Principal introduces the Advisor to students. The Advisor is appointed a number of staff members to assist him/her.

President
Acting as the speaker of the student council; the President should review the performance of the members. He\She chairs all meetings and may be appointed with any duties, responsibilities, and privileges by the Advisor. The President will be elected by the general student body (Grade 12). He/she has the privilege of delivering the graduation speech.

Vice-President
He/she performs the duties of the President when the President is not available. He/she is also elected by the general student body.

Treasurer
The Treasurer shall maintain accurate accounts of all assets, liabilities, and receipts belonging to the Council, under the supervision of the Advisor. The Advisor is elected by the general student body.

Senior Class President
He/she will work closely with the President and Vice-President to decide on issues concerning Grade 12. He/she is elected by the general student body and is responsible for the Student Council Board, updated regularly. He/she has the privilege of delivering a speech at graduation.

Junior Class President
He/she represents Grade 11 and helps to convey their concerns and interests to the Student Council Board. He/she is elected by the general student body.

Sophomore Class President
He/she represents Grade 10 and helps to convey their concerns and interests to the Student Council Board. He/she is elected by the general student body.

Freshman Class President
He/she represents Grade 9 and helps to convey their concerns and interests to the Student Council Board. He/she is elected by the general student body.

Secretary
He/she is responsible for arranging meetings, scheduling Student Council activities and recording minutes of meetings for distribution to members. A file must also be kept for Student Council Board purposes containing a record of yearly achievements.
Elections

The Advisor will give at least 10 days of notice of any election. The
notice shall explain the election rules, regulations and procedures.
- In arranging for elections, the Advisor shall have the authority to make
rules or regulations and establish procedures with respect to the
following matters:
- The placement of posters and banners, the distribution of handbills,
and other forms of campaigning during the pre-election period.
- Each class should have one representative. Students then vote for him/her.
- All the slogans should be approved by the Advisor or any member of
the committee before they are hung on the walls.
- Voting should be conducted confidentially.
- The Advisor shall declare the winners and the names of the winners
shall be displayed in the appropriate media.
- The President, Vice-President and Treasurer of the Council shall be elected by the general student body.
Candidates

Candidates must have a GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible for Student Council. This is not negotiable.
- Candidates who are eligible to be members in the Student Council should be of good character and trustworthy. The Advisor has the right to exclude any candidate based on his/her academic or behavioural record.
- Membership in the Student Council will terminate upon the withdrawal, suspension or expulsion of the student.
- The Advisor has the right to remove any officer from his/her post
when the advisor deems this officer to be derelict in his/her duties.
Meetings

Meetings of the Student Council shall be conducted once a week throughout the
academic year.
- Emergency meetings may be held on the request of the Advisor or the
President.
- Minutes of the Student Council meetings shall be taken by the Secretary
and a copy shall be kept in the Student Council Board file.
- All members of the Student Council should be present at the meetings unless
there is a valid excuse for absence approved by the Advisor. Any
representative absent from three or more meetings shall be removed
from the Council.
- The location of the meetings are decided upon by the Advisor or the
President with at least two days of notice.
Annual Activities
The following is a list of annual activities of the Student Council. Any of these activities may be eliminated or others added by a vote of the Council and approval of the Advisor:

Charity & Food Drives (For worthwhile causes e.g. Cancer Care)
- Ramadan Activities (Iftar with local orphanages)
- Mother’s Day
- Bake sales (fund-raising activities)
- Trips
- Ushering for major school events
