Dr. Mahmoud Shra’a
Mahmoud Flayeh Al-Shraah is a full professor of English literature in the Department of English
Language and Literature at the University of Jordan, Amman. He taught at Yarmouk University,
Jordan, the University of Qatar, Doha, and Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University,
Riyadh. Al-Shraah held the positions of Chairman of English Departments, Director of Language
Centers and Dean of School of Foreign Languages at both Yarmouk University and the
The University of Jordan. He supervised numerous Ph.D. dissertations and MA theses in Jordan and
Saudi Arabia. Al-Shraah’s scholarly publications appeared in the Journal of Intercultural Studies,
Australasian Drama Studies, World Literature Today, Shakespeare Yearbook, Critical Survey,
Journal of Ethnics and Cultural Studies, and other Arab academic periodicals. Al-Shraah’s
research interest falls mainly in comparative drama, postcolonial drama, diaspora studies and
Shakespeare. Al-Shraah published articles and research studies on the adaptation and
appropriation of Shakespeare in Arabic literature and culture. He has recently become interested
in Arab American drama and theater.
Al-Shraah received his MA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign, USA in 1983.
