At the high school, students in grades 9-12 follow a college preparatory program structured around the Common Core Standards and designed to prepare students for higher education in the United States, Canada, the UK, and other universities worldwide.

As an international school guided by our mission and vision, IIS offers educational opportunities that serve both the Jordanian and international communities in Amman. All courses at IIS are taught in English. In order to provide the best opportunities for our students, we have established a curriculum that encourages students to continue their studies in all of the major academic disciplines. In high school, students must earn credits (one credit per course per year) in English, Mathematics, and Sciences.

The International Independent School offers a comprehensive and vigorous academic program built upon the principles and standards of the American education system. The built curriculum is flexible and designed to inspire students to enrich their knowledge while opening new horizons and becoming conscious global citizens.

The curriculum encourages students to continue their studies in all major academic disciplines. High school students earn credits with each subject taken on a one credit per course per year basis.

Completion of the high school program at the end of grade 12. Once a student has successfully achieved the minimum requirements they will receive the American High School Diploma that will serve as the foundation for their college education and admissions.

The AHSD is accredited by the American Educational Agency, Cognia, and the North Central Association- Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA-CASI) which is internationally recognized for its work with international schools. Our students at the high school level are academically challenged with demanding Advanced Placement courses, prepare for and excel on the SAT I, and ACT subject exams.

The high school (grades 9-12) presently comprises 16 classes. The high school program is designed to prepare students to attend local universities or Western community colleges or universities.

The high school offers an American and a British curriculum, and is staffed with approximately 42 staff members. The majority of teachers are specialists in one, or more areas.

Each teacher is dedicated to serving the educational needs of our students. Our high school staff work as a team and meet frequently in order to meet the needs of our diverse student body and to make improvements to the high school program.

  • AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and AP Art.
  • Unlike SAT and GCSE Advanced Level courses, the AP gives students the chance to prove their in-depth knowledge across a wide array of courses: a student’s application to college might show perfect AP Exam scores in Calculus, Advanced Physics, and Computer Science, or practically any combination. The AP Exams give colleges a better sense of the developing skills and interests of students and, as many admissions officers can attest, AP scores are a virtual must for students seeking entrance to top universities around the world. For Jordanian students, AP Exams help them obtain their Tawjihi equivalency
